I've tried my share of face masks over the years - from the thick, green ones popularized by every movie portrayal of an old woman ever seen to the oh-so-satisfying peel off numbers, and every squeeze tube in between. One of my main girls is Queen Helene and her tingly Mint Julep Masque - so fancy it requires a 'que' ending (although, I don't know who she's trying to fool because it costs less than a fiver), but the 'Most Noticeable Results I've Ever Seen' award goes to Aztec Secrets Indian Healing Clay, hands down.

There are a million ways to mix a custom face mask for your skin (e.g. aloe, vitamin E or jojoba oil for moisture, oatmeal or sea salt for exfoliation, green tea for antioxidant power) but this is how I do my thing - and how you can try it too:
WHAT YOU NEED
+ Clay Mask {Aztec Secret. which you can get here}
+ Apple Cider Vinegar {raw is best}
+ Tea Tree Oil {cheap at Trader Joe's!}
+ Honey {raw and organic it good, but here I just have the regular stuff}
+ Plastic Mixing Utensil & Plastic Bowl/Cup
HOW TO DO IT
Measure out your clay. I use about 1 tablespoon and mix it with an equal part of apple cider vinegar.
Stir with a plastic spoon or other utensil (I'm using an Ikea chopstick). Metal makes it angry.
Mix it allllll together and slather on your face. This one is on the thinner side, so it might be easier to apply with a cheap foundation brush (like the $1 one from ELF), but I just used my fingers.
This mask has deeply enveloped my nose stud. Also, ewww. |
I recommend doing this before you get in the shower because rinsing off a mask at the sink takes forever and annoys me. You can also use a face cloth, but then you get clay all over it and that annoys me too. Try to be less annoyed than me because, hey - you have awesome skin now!
Have you ever customized a face mask before? Do you like feeling like a swamp thing-type creature for beauty? What would you add to your custom mask?

This looks absolutely amazing. I LOVE the mint julep mas"que" (hahah, am I fancy now?) and have never heard of the Aztec Secret. I'm on the hunt for is so I can try out your homemade mask. It's full of great ingredients for the skin! I'm going to have to take out the Apple Cider Vinegar, my face is already SO dry! Excited to try..

Yes, I love this stuff! If that wasn't already clear, haha. The vinegar makes the mask much more effective in my experience, and it makes it easier to mix. For some reason, when I use water the mask is way lumpier. Just a suggestion - I get how drying it can be. xo
DeleteI've been meaning to pick up some Aztec Healing Clay. I wouldn't have thought to mix in honey but that's a good idea! I already have gallons of Bragg's vinegar around. Love that "mother", haha!
ReplyDeleteThe honey makes alllll the difference! It used to dry me out like crazy (but was still worth it) but adding the honey makes my skin SO soft! xo
DeleteWow, this seems amazing!! I've never heard of the Aztec Secret but I do love the Mint Julep Masque so this seems right up my alley! Thanks for the tutorial!

Yay! Love the mint julep, but this stuff is more hardcore in my opinion! xo
DeleteHow are you not a professional make up artist? I would never think to add honey as a moisturizer.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, you flatter me! In another world, another life maybe. Honey is the best for moisture. You can also just slather honey on your face and leave it on as a mask - it makes your skin SO soft! Feels weird while doing it, obviously...xo
DeleteI have never done a DIY face mask before but this one seems too easy not to try. I noticed that you didn't apply the mask up to your eyes, is it safe to use on the undereye area?
ReplyDeleteAnother Beautiful Thing
I always keep masks away from my delicate under eye skin because it's so sensitive. I could probably go a little closer to my eye than this, but I try to keep some distance because this mask can be so powerful. xo
DeleteGreat face mask, I've got to try this out.
