DIY: From Sweater to Capelet

If you've got a sweater or cardigan sitting unworn in your closet, you can have a cute little capelet instead with just minimal effort. I had a cute mint green cardigan which I never wore (despite my self-admitted mint green obsession) so I decided to cut off the top and make it a shoulder-grazing capelet. Here's a quick tutorial to do it yourself:

I also made a sweater guard from pearl beads and clips to keep it balanced over my shoulders because I like it better open rather than buttoned.

I can also wear it draped farther open because the guard is elastic:

Ta-da! A new DIY capelet from your old unused sweater!

ROUNDUP: Weekly Links 11/27/11

Here's what I'm rounding up this week:

Kotik Precious Metals
This beautiful and eco-friendly jewelry is made from a colorful array of bottle caps which have been bent, twisted and flattened into too cool rings, necklaces, pins, flowers and more.
The Slutcracker
This burlesque retelling of The Nutcracker tells the tale scene for scene with a decidedly racy twist. Described as "sexy freaky" this show is a holiday must for those in the Boston area.
Easy Removal for Glitter Nail Polish
As much as I love glitter nail polish, taking it off is nothing short of a nightmare. Thanks to Pink Sith for sharing this ingenious method which requires no deep scrubbing efforts - just some polish remover, cotton pads and foil. Plus, you get to make your fingers look like tiny baked potatoes!
Amazing Treehouses
These amazing treehouses prove that living indoors is totally overrated.
Helvetica Monopoly
Keep it simple and sleek with this Helvetica Monoploy - a dream for any designer.

DIY Vegetarian Thanksgiving Feast!

Happy Thanksgiving - hope yours was happy and delicious! Mine sure was due to our vegetarian Thanksgiving feast featuring favorites like Quorn Turk'y Roast, Rachael Ray's Pumpkin Stuffing (made with pumpkin muffins instead of bread!), Mashed Potatoes, Butternut Squash with honey and brown sugar, Cranberry, Rolls, Gravy from scratch and Pumpkin Pie. While I can pretty much no longer stand the sight of leftovers, maybe you'll enjoy a peek at our vegetarian extravaganza!

I turned this:

Into this:

What did you eat on Thanksgiving? I wanna know!

STYLE: Girl Scout Patches

Girl Scout patches make an awesome accessory for sweaters, purses, shirts, whatever! I never had the pleasure of being a scout or even a Brownie, but I can pretend with awesome patches from Troopmore on Ebay.

For a buck apiece (and cheap shipping) I can pretend to relive false Girl Scout memories like that amazing corn maze adventure or that canned food drive for the needy! Maybe this is common knowledge for former scouts, but there is pretty much a patch for EVERYTHING that might ever happen, like Movie Night, TV Station Tour, Day At The Mall, Pancake Breakfast and a ton more of kinda weird celebratory designs. Here's what I picked up:
My favorites are Spaghetti Dinner and Pizza Fun! Another choice pick:
Couldn't have said it better myself. What ones do you want?

ROUNDUP: Weekly Links 11/13/11

Here's what I'm rounding up this week:

Design Your Own Heels with Shoes of Prey
Shoes of Prey is kind of addicting. It lets you design your own heels (pick styles, shapes, heel type, materials, colors, adornments and more) in a 3D workspace and you can actually buy them! Full disclosure: they are pretty expensive (starting at $180 for flats) but playing around is free!

The 90s Are All That on TeenNick
Since my generation has been nostalgic since we were in diapers, Nickelodeon has done their duty and presented us with The 90s Are All That on TeenNick starting at midnight every night. Favorites like Pete & Pete, All That, Salute Your Shorts, Clarissa Explains It All and Doug are presented by lovable 90s relic Stick Stickly, and it seems he's aged right along with us, even going so far as to make an Angry Beavers joke - and it's not about the cartoon.

Coca Cola Freestyle
This is a really nerdy thing to get excited about, but this MAGICAL SODA MACHINE FROM OUTER SPACE offers over 100 drink options and a fancy touch screen. It totally feels like the kind of crazy "push a button and get food" machine we were expecting to have "in the future" when we were little, except we obviously aren't taking our flying cars to get there (still waiting...). Peach Sprite? Yup. Raspberry Coke? Sure thing. Vanilla Root Beer? PUT IT IN ME. Find one near you on their website!

Altered Vintaged Photos from Frighten on Etsy
This Etsy shop will have you thinking 'Oh, what a beautiful family portrait! Wait, is that a pug in a suit?' or 'My, that cat with a mustache sure looks distinguished'. Vintage portraits are updated to include odd elements like animals in suits and a hair-do full of skulls in the altered reality offered by Frighten.

Mariachi Band Serenades a Beluga Whale
Watch this puff faced cutie shake a tail fin to the tunes of a three piece Mariachi band. Why do beluga whales always look like cartoon characters?!
